Elevators

An elevator is a device used for transporting people and goods between floors of a building or structure, which has become an undeniable necessity due to the increase in height. The main purpose of using an elevator is to enhance convenience and speed when moving between different floors.

Main Components of an Elevator

Elevators consist of various components, each playing a specific role in the movement and operation of the elevator. The most important components include:

  • Elevator Doors: Doors that open and close, allowing easy access for people and goods to enter and exit the elevator.
  • Elevator Motor: The part responsible for providing the power to move the elevator.
  • Elevator Cabin: The section where people and goods are placed, moving with them between floors.
  • Elevator Control Panel: The system that controls the elevator’s movement and adjusts its speed.
  •   Elevator Safety System: A system designed to protect users and prevent accidents.

Types of Elevators by Use

Elevators can be classified based on usage, movement system, capacity, height, speed, and the type of building. Some of the most common types include:

Home ElevatorsSpecial elevators used in buildings or apartments without a conventional elevator, especially in unique structures.
Passenger ElevatorsKey devices in modern buildings for moving people between different floors.
Car Lift ElevatorsDesigned for transporting vehicles between parking levels in buildings
Hospital ElevatorsBuilt for use in hospitals and healthcare centers for moving patients and medical equipment.
Freight ElevatorsUsed for transporting goods and cargo in buildings and warehouses

Types of Elevators by System

Elevators can also be categorized by their systems into the following:
1. Hydraulic System: A type of elevator commonly used in workshops, five-story buildings, warehouses, and industrial structures for moving heavy loads. This system takes up less space, does not require a rooftop machine room, and is ideal for glass and panoramic elevators.
2. Gearless System: A traction elevator that uses a motor without a gearbox.
3. Gear System: A system where the driving force from the motor is transmitted to the traction pulley through a gear.
4. Machine Room-less System (MRL): A system where the rooftop machine room is eliminated, and all motor and control systems are installed in the elevator shaft or overhead.

Understanding different types of elevators can greatly help in selecting the right one for your building project. Elevators can be classified by usage and system, as discussed in this article, and their subcategories have been explained.

If you’re still unsure which type of elevator is suitable for your project, it’s recommended to consult with Owjlift's sales experts to choose and install the appropriate elevator for your building.

carlift-elevator

A car lift elevator is used for vertical transportation of vehicles inside or outside a building. These lifts can be built with a cabin or a platform.

freight-elevator

Freight elevators are designed and built to move and transport goods (such as construction materials).

Home-lift

Home elevators solve the problems of going up and down the stairs in multi-storey houses and villas

Elevator Technical Systems

Elevator technical systems consist of four main types: gearbox, gearless, machine room-less (MRL), and hydraulic systems. Below, we will explain each of these systems.

hospital-elevator

Bed elevators and stretcher elevators are the two main systems of hospital elevators. The capacity of the stretcher lift is 13 people, the capacity of the elevator is 21 people
