elevator photocell

Photocell or elevator electric eye is one of the most important safety sensors in an elevator system, which is used by normal users when using the device. Photocell or elevator electric eye is a sensor that detects obstacles such as objects and people and orders to keep the doors open. The elevator photocell prevents your clashing with the closing elevator door. In this blog post, we intend to learn more about photocell or electric eye.

Types of elevator photocell

There are two types of elevator photocell, which will be introduced in the following:
1. Optical photocell
2. Curtain or light photocell
You can compare and contrast these two types of elevator photocell in below table:

Comparing different types of elevator photocell

Optical photocellThis photocell only checks one point. It has a simple structure and is cheaper.
Curtain photocellThis photocell checks multiple points and has a wider coverage. As a result, it has a more complicated structure with improved performance. They come at more expensive prices

Optical or single-point photocell

These photocells check the distance of 50-70 centimeters from the floor level and only cover one point, from the elevator mid-to-low level point. These photocells consist of a power supply, elevator photocell circuit, and laser. They come at lower prices, because it consist of fewer parts and they have simple performance.
This type sends a signal to the receiver from one point located on the elevator door sides; that is why this is called single-point photocell.

Curtain or light photocell

Light photocell acts exactly the same as optical types, yet it can cover more area by detecting several points. This photocell approximately covers the whole elevator door and has more signal sender/receiver. As this type covers more area, it has a better performance, and costs more compared to optical types.
Considering the above-mentioned explanations, the curtain photocell provides more security compared to the optical type, yet it has a higher risk of damage, because it contains several sensors.
Weco curtain photocell is one of the best photocells available brands in the market.

Elevator photocell installation

To experience the best possible performance from the elevator photocell, it is recommended to ask an expert technician to install it.
To install a curtain photocell, you should fix it near the cabin point to get the best possible results. Please pay attention to the distance and angle of the curtain sensors. Installing two sensors near each other will result in improved performance and increased life span. If you plan to install them at a further distance, please make sure they are placed at a right angle to get the best possible results.

Elevator photocell service and repair

The serviceman should check the proper performance of the photocell or elevator electric eye, in his periodic visits. One of the challenges with photocell parts is that they get dirty easily, and both types should be cleaned periodically.
Adjusting connection boards, electric circuits, power supply, and sockets should be checked by the servicemen during their periodic visits.
Owjlift is experienced in the installation of elevator parts and equipment, and has equipped many elevator projects in Iran and foreign countries. Therefore, you can contact our sales and technical experts to receive proper elevator consultation services.
